What do you use kief for

All you need is parchment paper, a hair straightener, and a collection tool. Only the most experienced users can distinguish rosin from sap or shatter. When you use kief, you benefit from an extremely potent concentrate. One of the first steps in making hash involves extracting kief.

Hash is essentially kief that has been heated slightly and pressurized to create a soft ball. When you apply pressure and heat to kief, its resin glands are damaged, which results in a change in composition. Also, subjecting kief to pressure causes its color to become darker.

You can make hash at home using kief. To do so, place the kief in folded parchment paper. Next, run a clothes iron or a straightening iron over the parchment paper.

By doing so, you are applying pressure and heat to the kief, which will change its composition. When sprinkling kief into your joint, we recommend mixing it with your bud beforehand. One handy tip is to sandwich the kief between the bud before wrapping it up in the rolling paper.

Best of all, you generally only need to light it once, and you can enjoy an entire session without interruption. Alternatively, you could try rolling a twax joint. First, dampen the outside of the joint, or else you can use wax. Roll the exterior of the joint in kief. The kief will stick to the outside of the joint. Light up, and enjoy that extra kief kick. It increases the potency of the bowl dramatically. That way, you can enjoy multiple hits from your kief-crowned bowl.

Separating kief is easy. These allow you to filter out various grades of product and get to the goal, which is a pure kief made up of nothing but tiny trichome heads rather than the original mix of trichome heads, plant matter, trichome stalks, and various particulate. One of the benefits of kief over other methods of making hash, including butane, propane, ethanol, and even water, is it requires almost no equipment and has no safety concerns.

If you want to go one step farther, you can also press your refined kief using light heat and get something similar to a shatter, which can be easier to work with than loose, dusty kief.

Our recommended method for smoking kief is to use a screen on top of a glass pipe. You can purchase durable specialty titanium screens for smoking hash at well-stocked head shops, but you can even use a standard stainless steel pipe screen with no issues.

Gently heating the kief using indirect flame held an inch or two above the kief is the best way to release the essential oils and prevent burning it -- good kief will begin to bubble and melt like you see with high-grade water hash, leaving behind very little residue and giving a full-flavored hit.

When collecting larger amounts of kief, people will often use something known as a pollen sifter box. These boxes are made up of trays and screens designed to collect kief at the bottom tray. By distributing the trichomes and breaking them off from the buds, sifters expedite the extraction process. Regardless of the extraction method you select, store your kief in a cool, dark place. When kief is heated it burns very quickly. To avoid unnecessary waste, space your kief over the outside lining of the bowl.

This will keep the kief burning longer in between hits. You can do this with any bowl, joint, blunt etc. When opting for this method, remember that a little bit of kief goes a long way. Kief is much more potent than flower. Consider using kief. Kief can be used for making infusions just like flowers or hash oil can. This means that the kief has been heated to activate the THC.

If you absolutely must handle your kief, we recommend a pair of simple, latex, or nitrile gloves to keep the kief from being wasted at the touch. A plastic knife works well, as does something like a small silicone spatula. You can use this to gently scrape your kief out of your grinder and into the containment vessel of your choice. For storage, we recommend something air-tight and high quality, preferably made out of glass or metal.

Kief is a bit hard to work with on its own. This gives your kief something to hold on to and prevents issues with the kief just getting sucked out of the back of your filter tip. Likewise, if using traditional glassware, just adding a little dusting of kief onto the top of your regular cannabis plant matter will likely have you very happy with the results.

If you have a glass or metal spoon, this can be used to dump a bit of kief onto your heated rig, but otherwise, we recommend using your usual dab tool to pick up a bit of concentrate and then dip said concentrate into your pile of kief. A vaporizer is designed to heat cannabis to just the right temperature to make it release its THC content and is ultimately less wasteful and more efficient than any of the other methods listed above.

Before you go any further understand that kief, like any other cannabis product, must be decarbed before it can be consumed. Want to sprinkle kief on your cornflakes? How about on your peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Kief milk, kief coffee, kief smoothies, and even kief tea are possibilities. The taste not to mention texture of kief on its own can be somewhat unpleasant, though, and to remedy that, we recommend looking into infusions. After letting the cannabis plant matter in our case, kief brew like coffee for several hours at a low temperature, the majority of the cannabinoids contained within are leeched out into the surrounding liquid, meaning it can now be used for recipes in place of your kief — We recommend using something like a coffee filter to strain the remaining plant matter out first, though.

Basting a steak with butter? Go ahead and use cannabutter instead. Looking to make some homemade gummies with coconut oil? Your cannabis-infused coconut oil will work just as well. Of all the kief-related concentrates available, hash may be the most well-known and popular the world over.
