Upon earning enough points, players then level up to the next rank. Upon getting certain ranks, players can then unlock the online quests which require that GR. The quests for WKC2 require at least GR16, so newly-created WKC2 characters will have lots of grinding to look forward to before they can get to the 6-player co-op.
While playing WKC with other people is certainly a nice change of pace from playing the single-player, the quests are often very simple in structure collect things, talk to people, kill X number of enemies, kill Y boss, etc. Unbeknownst to her, but knownst to us! So starts an epic, and I mean hour per game, quest to search and rescue said princess.
Battles take place in real time, with a cool down timer essentially stopping you button mashing the best moves. Its incredibly daunting initially to try and understand how the game works, and how best to set up your party — however once you get over this initial hurdle you will figure out that actually there are very basic mechanics at work here which look like they have been over complicated almost on purpose to add an extra layer of perceived depth to the game. The camera control in combat can also be a real pain in the arse — as you lock onto an opponent to attack but then try and use an area of effect spell to hit some of the other enemies around your target.
More often than not I found myself fighting with the camera to try and get opponents to fall within the area of effect radius displayed helpfully on screen. The targeting system is quite over complicated too — which meant on occasion targeting the entirely wrong enemy and even on occasion a team mate. At times, WKC2 can feel a little like a solo MMORPG — with quests being dished out left right and centre and you only really getting involved to level grind your character.
Yeah, I strongly believe there are more than one of us out there!! My final gripe about WKC2 is the character creation system. Its a real disappointment to spend a good amount of time creating a character you really like, only to realise that you could in theory play the majority of the entire game without using them once!
Whilst I didnt get chance to test this in the review — the idea is a good one, and at least its something different! To conclude, whilst it appears that this review is negative, my lasting impression of the game is positive as despite the niggles there really is a LOT of value for money here — one which could be extended into the hundreds of hours if you so choose.
As I mentioned above, the first WKC is on there purely as a bonus to the fans, and with a series of improvements that the dev team added to the game whilst developing WKC II. When will the madness end?! Though, giving away a full retail game for free with its sequel does make a strong bid for top Ross on the PS Blog.
I saw both covers get leaked online a few days ago but I have to admit that they look pretty good, especially the one for Origins. This was announced last year. Besides this game is terrible worst rpg ever. You have confirmed that we can import our saves from the first game, something wich im sure most of us already knew.
By the way, will WKC2 have any kind of online pass, like the japanese version? Yes, it will. May i ask Question? As you said earlier, there is not enough disc space to include Japanese audio. However, would it not be possible to offer the Japanese audio as free downloadable content from the day the game is released?
It would most definitely make a lot of fans happy. More so, perhaps, than the inclusion of the complete first game… ;. Just various relatively minor tweaks for the combat and so on, or are there more major noticeable changes? Do you know what this is absolute genius. If only more devs did stuff like this for their fans and not just for money. This is great news. Curious about the online servers. Will we be able to play with people from the US or will it be region locked server kind of thing?
In the current landscape where we have over-priced DLC as well as launch day DLC — content clearly ripped from the game to sell at a premium — this approach with WKC2 is really admirable.
Alestes: The graphics where updated to match those of WKC2 also. Some characters look a bit like dolls in part 1, they look a lot better in this version.
