Breaking pointe how many episodes

Angyil: I originally was in a bunch of different after-school activities: the robotics team, the debate team, all of these teams. And then dance became an activity at my school. I fell in love, and went on to a performing arts school where I studied ballet, jazz, Graham modern, tap. Angyil: A lot of the Ailey teachers would come to Kansas City every summer.

At the end of the intensive, they picked students who they thought had a promising future. I was one of the students picked to fly to New York and train there. Angyil: I was tired of putting my hair in a bun. I know that sounds crazy. I appreciated the discipline of concert dance, but felt like I couldn't be free—like I couldn't allow my body to move however my muscles wanted to move.

Music also played a big role. I wanted to hear music that resonated with my soul, with my mood and personality. Ballet definitely taught me a lot when it comes to discipline and training. But I decided to just go with hip hop, which felt the closest to my authentic self.

Angyil: The people that I trained with were like, 'Your posture is way too proper. You need to break your posture. That, and my feet were always turned out. Angyil: Performance. It's still about performance at the end of the day, regardless of whether it's on the street or another everyday place, or in a theater.

You're still responsible for turning it on and performing your best. Angyil: I don't think ballet dancers realize how structured and serious hip hop can be. The focus is a bit different, but it's to the same level. Just like there's vocabulary in the ballet world, there are names for everything in hip hop as well. There's freedom in the display, but structure behind it. Just because you're smiling and look like you're enjoying yourself doesn't mean you're not working extremely hard at a move.

Angyil: Don't allow someone to put you in a box and tell you that you should only do this or that. If you love dance, research and study as many genres of dance as possible.

Read books. Go to the places where these dances and styles were created. Get a mentor and spend time with them.

I've only done a quick pass so far through the first two episodes produced by the BBC and they seemed a little high key, but interesting and not totally out of line with Ballet West's YouTubes which focus well on rehearsals and ballet development. BW's artistic director talks on some of them and they help to personalize the dancers, who can sometimes feel that no-one picks them out on-stage. They depict a company which works hard and sticks to the classical standards on-stage. Ballet companies of all sizes are trying new kinds of promotion in this tough economy, with so much other entertainment now out there.

Some companies have since done without orchestras though Ballet West still has one. For the moment the number of well-paid dancer positions probably in the US below doesn't seem to be growing, and the audiences are not yet really diversifying.

Maybe half of that seat revenue comes from the Nutcrackers. The rest is made up by local government ballet can be a real asset for cities , foundations, benefactors, and fund-raising galas, all demanding and none of them forever. Now we get to see ballet fighting back.

The movie Black Swan which this show seems an extension of was a bit bizarre but it reached an audience far wider than ballet normally does. Ballet West is about the same size and offers the same kind of mostly classical-ballet programs and training as say the Anaheim, the Memphis, the San Diego, and the Tulsa.

All the companies of that size and most of the larger are doing sometimes peculiar new things to pull in bigger crowds. Anaheim is perhaps the most way-out in promotion: check their YouTubes.

They do ballets in strange places which some other companies Pacific Northwest in Seattle, and Hamburg, and English National Ballet, and the new Angel Carrera company in Madrid are also doing. I for one like them. Many companies are traveling more. The Mariinsky from St Petersburg was in NY a few months ago, and soon after, they simulcast a very good 3D Giselle with Osipova in the lead role in theaters around the world.

Hint: it's awesome. Personalizing the ballet dancers and the creative process which we see here in Breaking Pointe can resonate really well and could be the best response to the question at the end of Jennifer Homan's recent history of ballet Apollo's Angels : Is ballet over?

I'm not Mormon but I like Salt lake City and it is serious about its culture. So good luck Ballet West. If the CW had promoted this show like they did for smallville, one tree hill, vampire diaries, originals etc they probably would have gotten a lot more viewers!
